In-house Laboratory
Our in-house laboratory gives us the opportunity to give our patients and clients rapid results for a range of tests. This allows us to carry out pre-operative blood tests to ascertain whether a patient is suitable to undergo a surgical procedure. It can also allow us to institute lifesaving treatment at the earliest opportunity in cases of acute and life-threatening illness.
Some examples of the in-house tests we can do are as follows,
Haematology – this is the testing of a blood sample to measure red and white blood cell numbers and types, haemoglobin concentration and blood clotting agents. This information can be vital in cases of acute or chronic anaemia.
Biochemistry – this is the testing of how well an animal’s organs and immune system are functioning. Protein levels, liver function, kidney function and jaundice pigments are some of tests we can carry out.
Pancreas Function – acute pancreatitis is a potentially fatal condition and rapid diagnosis means the correct treatment can be given quickly giving your pet a much increased chance of survival.
Ovulation Test – when a bitch is to be mated it is vital that this happens near to ovulation (release of eggs from the ovary) We can pinpoint this by a simple blood test.
Thyroid Levels – cats are prone to having high thyroid levels and dogs to having low thyroid levels. Both conditions are very easily treated.
Skin Scrapes – scrapes are taken from the affected area on the patient, lides are prepared and we can then look for a variety of parasites.
